Healing and Freedom Are Central to Our Mission
When Jesus stood up in the synagogue in Nazareth and opened the scroll to Isaiah 61, He was not simply reading a passage. He was announcing His mission -- and ours.
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
-- Luke 4:18-19 / Isaiah 61
Healing the sick, freeing the oppressed, restoring identity to those who had lost it -- this is what filled the pages of the Gospels. It was not peripheral to Jesus' ministry. It was the ministry. And by His Spirit, it continues.
